I was thinking about writing a book about someone who gets arrested for corresponding with an arab (in Sudan) on suspicion of terrorism. The themes are, mainly: paranoid governments, privacy v terrorism, alienation of potential allies etc. Has anybody read a book or short story with similar themes, story, idea etc. Also looking for similar real life examples if anybody knows of any.

Sadly I have no experience or advice I can give you.

Re: Privacy vs Terrorism
Wed, April 15, 2009 - 12:42 AMHi again,
I've been giving your idea some thought.
I'm not sure if this happens to all males on TRIBE or whether I am just unusually lucky :-) but I have had some interesting mail since I have been here. They are from women who live in the Sudan. It is clearly a con of some sort. They have e-mailed me and asked in I could help them transfer sums of money out of their country. This could be a possible in for your main charactor.
If you would like to see the first mail I receive just let me know and I will post it to you. -

Re: Privacy vs Terrorism
Wed, August 12, 2009 - 5:12 AMCool idea. I watch an excellent documentary (on HBO?) about the suppression of free speech and invasion of privacy mostly concerning the post 911 and red scare eras. I can't remember the name but ill try to find out, it might help, if not it was still pretty cool
