Advice and tips

topic posted Sun, December 2, 2007 - 9:23 AM by  offlinePam
This is something i wanted to do when i was a lot younger. But never got round to it. I guess life itself took hold got a job and the dreams disappeared
Today when i woke i got thinking maybe i can give it a go. But being a complete novice i don't know how to go about it. Its more to do finding a suitable publisher not wanting to get ripped off
Because i know it will be hard work.

Any tips any advice

Hi, Pam -- First, concentrate on your writing and on producing a finished work, whether it be a short story, novel, memoir, etc. Then, ideally, find a way to workshop your writing or to find readers who can give you an honest appraisal. Then, you can search for markets at places like Duotrope's Digest:

    www.duotrope.com

and you can consult Preditors and Editors to avoid potential ripoffs:

That's a start, at least. But first and foremost, concentrate on your writing before any of these other considerations.
